Abstract

Inequality in Cuba is not a secondary or unintended consequence of imperfect economic plans; instead, it is a direct and intended result of the structure of its economy. In the present text I propose to rethink Cuba as a set of three economies, each with distinguishable rules and rights. The stratification of the post-Soviet Cuban society is based on the differentiated participation of each Cuban in the three relations of production that coexist in the country: the social economy, the entrepreneurial State and the autonomous economy. Let us see, then, these three spheres, their actors, motives and actions, as well as their reconguration from the 1990s onwards.
