The monopoly of power in Latin America political elites under dictatorship

Abstract

Political elites have played a leading role in the democratization processes in Latin America. Born in the heart of organized civil society, political elites played a fundamental role in the processes of opening and liberalization of regimes marked by colonial and non-democratic practices; from the revolutionary processes to the maintenance and formation of executive power in the countries, political elites shaped the institutional framework of the new political regimes in Latin America.
