Ricardo Bofill Pagés: the prohibition of dissent, academic marginalization and the assassination of reputation as a state policy

Abstract

In 1966, Professor Ricardo Bofill Pagés was expelled from the University of Havana (UH), where he taught History of Philosophy and served as advisor to the dean, occupying the position of Department Head. The reason stated by the UH administration, in charge of Dr. José Millar Barruecos, had to do with his deviations from the ideological postulates by which the country was governed. Bofill had been meeting for months with other Marxist intellectuals to analyze and evaluate the negative socio-economic circumstances prevailing in Cuba, derived from the application of the socialist model, as understood by Fidel Castro.
