Abstract

In the history of mankind, there are millenary political units that have been, or are, protagonists of great changes at the political, social and economic levels. China is one of those millennial states that have been protagonists of these transformations, from its rich history as an empire from 221 B.C. to the creation of the People's Republic in 1949 A.D., in the constant search to lead one of the most populated territories on the planet.

Hong Kong is one of the most important regions of China since imperial times due to its great geopolitical value, being the gateway to trade between the Far East and the West (Sanchez, 2012). During the 16th century, this territory represented the main interests of the European powers, particularly the United Kingdom, given China's economic potential as a consumer and producer of goods that did not exist in the old continent.
