The use and abuse of the anti-terrorist discourse. Between the fight against subversion and state repression.
Abstract
This essay will analyze how the Cuban government manipulates the anti-terrorist discourse to justify actions that, in many cases, constitute State terrorism. At the international level, Cuba denounces the use of terrorism as a pretext for military interventions, mainly by the United States, arguing that such actions violate sovereignty and international law. At the same time, it criticizes that these interventions respond to geopolitical interests, as in the cases of Afghanistan and Iraq, defending the principle of non-interference and the self-determination of peoples (Intervention by the Cuban delegation on the topic ≪Measures to eliminate international terrorism≫, 2017).
