Abstract
Crises have been a consubstantial aspect of the evolution of the Cuban economy, throughout the sixty-three years that comprise the socialist stage of development. In terms of impacts, those with the greatest incidence have been the crises of international insertion, which have tended to accentuate the incidence of existing imbalances in the economy and even of others that were in the process of maturing. The consequences of this type of maladjustment have been characterized by their durability and permanence over time. Therefore, it is necessary to assume in the future perspective that crises are part of the mechanisms that contribute to confronting the various failures that accompany the development process, regardless of the political system in question.
