Abstract

The objective of this work is to carry out a historical, anthropological and visual tour of the representation of "twins", to reveal the coincident elements that allow the understanding of African thought and its consequences in the creation of icons, archetypes and motifs in the visual arts Cuban. To do this, it investigates African cultures and their transatlantic influences from various researchers, among which could be mentioned: Iván Bargna, Lázara Menéndez and Angelina Pollack-Eltz. The result will be a summary with the description of these notions, based on the chronology of works and authors who have dealt with La Gemelidad or Lo Jimagua within the "Afro-Cuban" theme in the field of art in Cuba.
