Abstract
In Colombia, from the act 1580 of 2012, establishing the family pension. This modality pension sets up an alternative aimed at safeguarding the principle of universality of the pension system, for the benefit of the spouses or permanent companions that individually they are unable to obtain the old-age pension. This article of research is intended to address the legal effectiveness and the real impact that has had this type of pension in the colombian population within the comprehensive social security system, and in the search to determine if the family pension is a failed attempt, a product of the desire that had the State, in meeting the deficit of the pension system.
