Cuba and the Cold War of the 21st Century
Abstract
After what happened in Cuba last May during the alternative gay pride march, many questioned whether Cuba was returning to its dark past. The images of State Security agents and political police of the Cuban regime confronting LGBT activists in Havana went around the world, as this happened after the Cenesex (National Center for Sex Education) cancelled the annual Conga against homophobia. Both offenses were very badly received, as they are not very consistent with the discourse that has been implemented for a couple of decades by the Castro regime to promote an increasingly open and inclusive sex education program.
