Where is Latin America going?

Abstract

This new number that I have been honorably invited to coordinate of the Cuban Forum magazine, and in which I am grateful to the outstanding academics and experts in regional politics who contribute with their analysis, seeks to give clues to the reader interested in Cuba and the Latin American region of the big questions that are awakened after a new long electoral cycle, and its subsequent ramifications. For the first time in a long time, the electoral results do not seem to be marking a uniform course in the region, i.e., neither a complete shift to the right nor a return to the left of the early 21st century. In addition, some countries have been shaken by large-scale and long-lasting street protests, which in some cases have already been resolved (Ecuador, Bolivia), and in others still persist (Colombia and Chile). In any case, democracy in Latin America and its quality continues to be debated.
