Soccer and authoritarianism
Abstract
Historically, authoritarian regimes have been present for long periods in different parts of the world, these governments are mainly characterized by concentrating all the power of the State and personalizing the authority of the government. Likewise, authoritarianism stands out for the construction of control mechanisms that aim to control and subjugate the population, either through repression or social manipulation (Linz, 1975). These mechanisms have been applied in various spheres of public life, particularly, this paper will delve into sports, more specifically the relationship between authoritarianism and soccer.
