Abstract

The Olympic Games are a competition held every four years that seeks to reward all those athletes who stand out in any discipline contemplated by the Olympic Committee. However, the States have altered its meaning as athletes no longer compete only for medals, but also as countries compete to demonstrate their superiority and stability before the whole world. Traditionally, the Olympic Games have presented the rivalries that existed in the International System, translated into the field of sports. A clear example of this is the rivalry that arose after World War II between the United States and the Soviet Union, where during those same years both countries made a strong effort to obtain more medals in this sporting event.
