Candidates and election campaigns in Cuba: without purpose or debate
Abstract
One of the most debated issues in Latin American politics is the role and position that governments should adopt vis-à-vis the Cuban government. Generally, the debates focus on who is to blame for the current state of the island. While others blame the embargo imposed by the United States since the 1960s, another side points to the Cuban government for not allowing the living conditions of its citizens to improve. Consequently, those who support the first position tend to point out the positive aspects of the system of government that exists there, since it is claimed that the general public has been misinformed about it.
