Abstentionism: The only medicine for a disease called autocracy

Abstract

On March 26, 2023, the elections to the National Assembly of People's Power (ANPP) were held in a social, political and economic crisis that Cuba is experiencing due to the different decisions taken by the government during the pandemic, a mismanagement of monetary and economic policy and political repression (Kobelinsky, 2023), so the position that mobilizes Cubans is the lack of credibility towards the regime. The aforementioned has generated a campaign of abstentionism that has been developing in recent years and it is interesting to analyze how not voting is a form of peaceful and legitimate resistance.
