Abstract

The humanitarian agency World Food Program (WFP), which belongs to the United Nations (UN), has a historical presence in Cuba. It began its collaboration with the Caribbean country in 1963 with an emergency operation that provided assistance to the people most affected by Hurricane Flora. Until 1985, WFP-supported projects in Cuba were monitored by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) with the collaboration of a regional advisor, while in 1993 the agency gained full autonomy.
