Abstract

In the second half of the 1970s, the European countries of the so-called "real socialism" showed evident signs of macroeconomic imbalances; loss of dynamism in economic growth, imbalances in their external accounts, especially in their relations with developed capitalist countries, as well as a relative stagnation and, in some cases, deterioration in the living standards of their respective societies.
