8M in Cuba Between Repression and Hope
Abstract
According to the 2023 Annual Report on Femicides in Cuba published by the Observatorio de Género Alas Tensas (OGAT), unofficial media denounced how 89 Cuban women were victims of femicide, crimes to which are added another 10 cases exercised against women of the same origin outside the island. This figure represents an increase of 105% compared to the 43 women victims registered in 2022. The concern about the increase in cases of femicide in Cuba has been worsening since these began to be registered by different international bodies since 2019, being that increase the turning point that set off the alarms to the point of allowing this problem to escalate to the ears of the UN.
