Abstract

In recent years, Latin America and the world have witnessed the rise of conservative and extreme right-wing leaders who have promoted hate speeches articulated under what has been termed as anti-gender or anti-wokism. These narratives, sustained in what is known as a moral panic, pose a binary confrontation between “traditional” values and the struggles for diversity, women's emancipation, anti-racism and any movement that questions cisheteronormative, white and patriarchal molds. Behind this offensive is an ideological machinery that intertwines authoritarianism, religious fundamentalism and ultra-conservatism, with great capacity for political and cultural penetration.
