Abstract

For more than 60 years, censorship in Cuba has been fundamental to the permanence of the dictatorship in power. Since the victory of the Cuban Revolution in January 1959, the predecessor political organizations of the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC), and later the PCC itself, relied on ideological apparatus to control the press. This was later summed up in the PCC's Ideological Department, which still exists.
