Abstract

There is much dissent in the elaboration of a single definition of prostitution, however, there are two common starting points. For a person to engage in prostitution there must be an exchange of sex or sexual favors for money, drugs, or other tradable goods. Also, this exchange must be the main source of subsistence for the person, thus creating an economic dependence on the trade. Finally, to these two conditions, I add a third: the amount of supply within the industry by women is greater than that of men.
