Abstract
Media and Information Literacy (AMI, by its acronym in Spanish), focused on competencies regarding the messages and spaces catalyzed by new media, is central to the strengthening of critical citizenship. This article breaks down how, despite the recent and growing interest in Cuban state academic spaces in applying the AMI, the centralized nature of the educational system compromises its successful application.
