Abstract

Last October 28, Cuba's Food Sovereignty and Food and Nutritional Security (SSAN) Law came into force. This phase involves the implementation of the SSAN law in a transversal manner, and intends to involve not only the Ministry of Agriculture, but also national entities, local authorities and "civil society". The law, proposed at the beginning of this year, seeks to generate the necessary legal guidelines to promote the self-sufficiency of the food production sector on the island. It also seeks to promote food handling practices and methods to ensure higher levels of safety and decentralization of the production, marketing and sale of food to Cubans.
