Abstract

Hunger is one of the most serious problems facing the Cuban people under the current regime. According to the United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO), Cuba is one of the most food insecure countries in Latin America, with 28.5% of its population undernourished in 2019. The shortage of basic foodstuffs, such as rice, beans, chicken and oil, is a daily reality that forces Cubans to stand in long lines, resort to the black market or rely on family remittances to survive.
