Independent Cinema: A Voice for Rights and Democracy
Abstract
The invention of cinema in the late 19th century by the Lumière brothers changed the way ideas were expressed, shared and transmitted. Prior to 1895, most entertainment dissemination was limited to writings, books and drawings within the printed press. The advent of moving images made it possible to convey ideas close to the population. Through faces, expressions and feelings, empathy was generated in the public.
