In the first semester of 2001, the Centro de Investigaciones Civilizar founded a journal that would inherit its name in response to a need for academic quality at Universidad Sergio Arboleda. Since its inception, the Journal has maintained its periodicity and over the years has positioned itself as an academic publication of national and international reference, which is reflected in achievements such as being classified and indexed by Colciencias in Category B, for the period January - December 2020, and indexed in databases such as DOAJ, Latindex, Publindex, Scielo, Redalyc, Redib, EBSCO Academic Research, Road, AmeliCA and Copernicus International.

The scientific journal Civilizar: Ciencias Sociales y Humanas of Universidad Sergio Arboleda publishes original articles in the fields of law, politics, economics, philosophy and humanities that are peer-review evaluated. The Journal has a biannual periodicity (January-June and July-December).

The main aims of the Journal are to the disseminate the scientific knowledge developed within the institution, in the academy and other national and international scientific institutions; as well as to encourage the visibility and impact of research developed in Latin America, keeping as its purpose to improve the editorial processes and the building of networks, fundamental in the dynamics of science communication process.

The journal is relevant to academics and researchers in the disciplines within the social and human sciences, to professors and university students, as well as to anyone with an interest and concern in the field.
